Our Spirit

Our spirit can be summed up in these two words the Salesian charism, the Holy Spirit’s gift to Don Bosco for educating and evangelizing the young.

The Lord continues to impart these gifts in those who are called to share in the mission of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello. As Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, we follow the Salesian Spirituality with a feminine slant shaped by the creative fidelity of our Co – Foundress St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello and of our first sisters of Mornese.

It involves understanding and identifying the manifestation of these gifts, which are the Eucharist, the sacrament of Reconciliation, devotion to Our Lady, fidelity to the Pope, pastoral charity, joy and optimism, work, and community. Salesian spirituality is a spirituality of pastoral charity inspired by the compassionate love of Christ the Good Shepherd. It is Sacramental, Marian, rooted in the Word of God, joyful, optimistic and youthful. Daily life is the place of encounter with the Lord. A great love for the Pope and the Church, and concern and self – forgetting love for others are other outstanding characteristics. Each of these elements is essential to living out the Salesian Charism. Don Bosco set these down for us, and even today, they have become our way to reach out to the young.

Don Bosco had great devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and believed that frequent Communion and Confession were the secrets to running a happy and peaceful apostolate, where young people could grow in faith. These values are likewise part of the Salesian Sisters’ daily life in growing in holiness along with the young.
