Holiness in The Salesian Family

“In the lives of the Saints, God shows himself to us and speaks through them. Let us entrust ourselves to them, seeking example in their lives and help in their intercession, certain of sharing with them in the one community of the Church.” (FMA Constitutions, Article 45).

In the Salesian Famiy, we find men and women, priests, clerics, bishops, martyrs, missionaries, religious and lay people and teenagers. They practiced the simple Christian spirituality as lived and taught by Don Bosco. It consists in encountering God in the day-to-day life and Sacraments, love for Mary and the Church and concern and care for others- all of which practiced in an atmosphere of joy, cheerfulness, optimism and family spirit. Following the teachings of St. Francis de Sales that holiness is within the reach of all, Don Bosco proved that it is attainable even by young people. Now 150 years since Don Bosco’s time, the Salesian Family has over 118 Saints, Blesseds, Venerables, and Servants of God. These people come from all walks of life, but are part of Don Bosco’s way of doing little things for God with great joy and simplicity. Sanctity is not something we claim, but it is a gratuitous participation in God’s holiness and is, therefore, a gift of grace.
